Watercolour Painting: The Guardian of Beauchamp Road
The original, limited Giclée prints and postcards will be available soon.
In this intricate watercolour, the familiar sights of a London neighbourhood are transformed through a lens of linguistic coincidence and community warmth. Centering on a decades-long love story and a legendary local "tax collector" (the neighbourhood cat), this piece celebrates the small, peculiar acts of kindness that turn a commute into a home.

The Story
"To my Cantonese ears, Beauchamp Road has a secret identity; it sounds exactly like Tokyo’s 表參道 (Omotesando), which we pronounce as Biu-Champ-Dou. This linguistic quirk is where the magic of this piece begins."
The Guardian of Beauchamp Road is a narrative watercolour that captures the soul of a London neighbourhood. At its heart are Jim and Frances, neighbours who have lived side-by-side for decades—a living portrait of enduring love. Looming large above the street is Charlie (also known as Mimi), the tubby, ginger "sovereign" of the road, whose presence is depicted as a monumental canopy over the residents.
